GSK has had a factory in Ulverston since 1948. When it opened, the factory produced penicillin and one of the early visitors was the scientist who discovered the drug, Sir Alexander Fleming. The antibiotics produced in Ulverston today help save the lives of millions of people in over 100 markets worldwide.

We are currently looking to recruit an Instrumentation Engineer to provide and manage the design, procurement, installation, testing and subsequent maintenance and support of site instrumentation systems and to ensure that they continue to meet internal customer, company and regulatory requirements.

The key responsibilities for this role are as follows –

• Manage teams to deliver instrumentation projects
• Represent the department at meetings taking direct responsibility for actions arising
• Apply company procedures to ensure that instrumentation is delivered, installed, calibrated and tested to achieve a validated state
• Determine appropriate technology for projects having due consideration for capital and lifetime cost, operability and maintainability and design instrumentation solutions for a complete project scope
• Liaise with external suppliers on technical aspects of project proposals
• Prepare and approve specifications, test protocols, or other documents to define functionality, or tests
• Ensure that installed instrumentation systems continue to meet the needs of the business by liaison with the Operations Area staff, coordinating or implementing change as agreed and maintaining the validated state through application of company procedures. 
• Provide technical leadership in hazardous area instrumentation and functional safety systems, and take technical responsibility for other staff, GSK & contract, as appropriate to the situation, normally in project environments
• Provide technical leadership around calibration activities and ensure compliance against company standards
• Act when required Project Manager/Engineer on site projects, where instrumentation is the sole/primary content
• Act as Project Engineer on multi-disciplinary site projects.

Why You?

Basic qualifications:
 

HNC/HND in an electrical engineering/instrumentation discipline, or relevant experience, as well as a demonstrable track record in a process manufacturing environment

In depth knowledge of working with & specification of various types of instrumentation e.g. pressure, flow, pH, temperature etc. 

Ability to plan, organise and communicate effectively at all levels

Project Management skills plus instrumentation specification, design and implementation expertise


Preferred qualifications: 
Degree in a relevant engineering discipline

Thorough working knowledge of Hazardous Area i.e. ATEX, Ex and IS concepts. Compex14 accreditation highly desirable

Functional safety accreditation, experience of implementing solutions in accordance with a Safety Lifecycle

Knowledge of asset management solution and optimising instrument maintenance
