Project Manager

The Client
Our client have over 40 years’ experience of design, manufacture, test and certification of composite components and structures for a variety of applications in the air, at sea and on land, to help our customers’ make the most of the advantages that composite materials can bring to their programme.

Project Manager - Primary Purpose of Job
For multi-disciplinary bids/projects of medium complexity a Project Manager will be appointed and seconded into the relevant business unit. They will be tasked with running either the whole project, or for larger projects a work package within that larger entity.
Reporting to the Programme Director or Senior Project Manager, the Project Manager has responsibility for ensuring that all assigned projects are planned and managed to meet agreed quality, cost and delivery requirements over the full project life-cycle.

Project Manager - Scope, Schedule & Resource Management
• Ensure all project requirements (e.g. technical, commercial, project management, delivery etc., both internal & external) are clearly understood from the outset (or firmed up during the bid/contract negotiation phase) and documented in a Deliverables Matrix (e.g. DOORs or similar compliance matrix)
• Lead, shape and construct with all service providers the overall project schedule showing link between WBS, Estimate and Resources with support from a professional planner where appropriate
• Manage and monitor the schedule and financial performance; identify issues, risks, opportunities and recovery plans as necessary
• Collate inputs for and produce Project Management Plan. Maintain this PMP throughout the life of the project
• Report project status and performance to appropriate parties and agree resulting actions
• Actively manage/expedite the engineering/parts supply/production pipeline (including logistics, in house manufacturing, bought out elements etc.) providing regular schedule updates with respect to change, actuals and critical path analysis. Drive corrective actions with the appropriate owners
• Escalate issues to Senior Management as and when necessary
• Keep project action list up to date and expedite closure of actions
• Actively manage internal and external change with the project team, service providers and customers
• Co-ordinate resource requirement inputs into Integrated Business Planning (IBP) process. Critically review this input in line with the project schedule and resource requirements
• Manage introduction and release of resources throughout the project, ensuring the resource supplied is appropriate to achieve success in term of time, cost and performance.

Project Manager - Personal Attributes
• High energy individual, with ability to self-motivate and motivate a team towards a solution oriented accountability culture
• Confident and diplomatic with an ability to create, influence and foster working relationships internally and with customers at all levels of the business
• Fully competent communicator (verbal & written briefs/reports/presentations) both internally and externally to management, customer and suppliers
• Self-motivated, creative with the ability to produce accurate work under pressure while continuing to meet deadlines
• Confident team manager with the ability to manage and develop people (e.g. Project Coordinator, Deputy Project Manager, other project team members)
• Willing to travel to customers/suppliers locally or overseas.

Project Manager - Experience
• Minimum of 5yrs working as a project professional in an engineering, manufacturing or related industry running multi-functional projects of medium complexity.

Project Manager - Education Level/Training
• Degree or equivalent by relevant experience
• APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ), or PMI Project Management Professional (PMP)
• APM Risk Level 2 MSP Intermediate level.
