Project Officer

Location: West Cumbria
Salary:  £25,000- £27,000 per annum (depending on experience) plus 6% pension. Full time, permanent.

West Cumbria Rivers Trust is working with a number of partner organisations to deliver a range of catchment-scale projects across West Cumbria.  The Trust is seeking a Project Officer to help deliver our portfolio of projects, specifically the management and delivery of a catchment-scale Natural Flood Management (NFM) focused project, with other multiple benefits for water quality and biodiversity.  The project will help to slow the flow of water running through the catchment to benefit communities at risk of flooding, whilst also improving water quality and aquatic and terrestrial biodiversity making a positive difference to people and the environment.

Working closely with partnership organisations and local communities, the Project officer will be responsible for working with farmers and landowners to draw up, deliver and monitor a range of on-the-ground interventions across catchments that both fit with farm business models and have maximum impact for both the environment and flooding.

The successful candidates will have a degree in an environmental, physical geography or agricultural discipline and at least 2 years experience in successful project delivery of either river, NFM, or farming related projects.  Building and maintaining positive working relationships with the farmers and landowners whose land upon which project interventions will be delivered is a key aspect of this role, therefore a strong background of working with farmers and landowners is essential.  You will be a self-starter who can demonstrate a committed, mature and flexible approach and have the passion to take our catchment projects to the next level. You will also have excellent organisational, communication and reporting skills.

West Cumbria Rivers Trust is a registered environmental charity dedicated to the preservation and improvement of the wildlife and habitats of rivers, lakes and the surrounding countryside in West Cumbria. We are a relatively young and successful Rivers Trust with a territory covering several principal river catchments which include seven iconic lakes spanning a substantial part of the Lake District National Park and West Cumbria. We have an impressive track record of successful delivery of projects and a steady growth and the successful candidate will help deliver the expanding number of projects we have in our catchments.

You will be part of a friendly and supportive team based in Keswick, Cumbria, reporting to one of the Trusts Assistant Directors and supported by the Director, WCRTs Trustees and staff.

If you believe that you have the passion, commitment and skills to take forward this exciting opportunity forward then we would like to hear from you. For further details including full job description please visit the West Cumbria Rivers Trust website: www.westcumbriariverstrust.org/contact/jobs
