Senior Commercial Advisor
Manchester

We are currently looking for an experienced Senior Commercial Adviser to work within a large public sector organisation in Manchester. This opportunity will be full-time, 37.5 hours a week on a 6 month basis.

The key objectives of this role is to support commercial activity for an allocated Directorate or Agency; understand their business and commercial risks; build strong stakeholder relationships with customers; take a strategic oversight of your customers’ commercial activity and; lead procurement activity for the department’s most complex and high risk procurement projects, delivering the best possible commercial outcomes.

Key Duties:
• Develop strong stakeholder engagement with your customers, to achieve positive commercial outcomes and deliver best value for money.
• Quickly develop and manage effective working relationships at all levels, to set a clear direction, to lead and inspire others and to champion new ways of working, supporting the implementation of our commercial transformation programme.
• Lead the Division’s support to allocated projects and deliver excellent procurement support aligned to policy and delivery needs.
• Take a strategic approach to managing your customers’ commercial activity, looking for opportunities to engage with the marketplace, drive greater levels of competition and implement category management where appropriate.
• Bring a commitment to high standards, excellent influencing and relationship management skills, and clear, incisive thinking to bear on a range of areas relating to the department’s most important priorities.
• Have the ability to influence teams and drive change to improve commercial activity and provide a challenge role where practice is ineffective or could be improved.
• Ensure that key commercial performance information is available for your customer areas to inform discussions about commercial performance and assurance, this will include maintaining commercial pipeline information.
• Ensure that customers and stakeholders are aware of and implement best commercial practices.
• Work with the Senior Commercial Business Partners to establish a holistic view of the department to form good commercial and category strategies to deliver the best commercial outcomes.
• Directly lead and manage commercial staff and direct other resource from within the division who from time to time are drafted in to support projects you lead.
The successful candidate will have:
• Significant commercial expertise in challenging commercial scenarios which is effective in delivering policy and delivery outcomes.
• A sound knowledge of Public Procurement legislation and how it can be pragmatically applied to benefit policy and programme delivery, knowing when to seek legal advice.

• Experience of delivering successful outcomes and identifying and implementing solutions to challenging commercial scenarios.
• Experience of successfully applying your strong commercial acumen, experienced at supplier and market management and negotiation.
• Experience of applying category management tools and techniques to deliver better commercial outcomes.
• Experience of leading a customer focused commercial service to deliver a quality service on time, often under challenging circumstances with competing priorities.
• Candidates with the full MCIPS qualification are preferred although it is not essential if you can demonstrate you meet all other requirements for this post.

Rate: £54,454 to £65,270
Term: 6 Months
Start: a.s.a.p.
