Instrumentation Engineer

Createc is seeking an instrumentation engineer to join its growing nuclear instrumentation team developing innovative radiation measurement tools. The role will be focussed on both instrument development and manufacturing process development and support; competency in a broad range of relevant skills is preferred to expertise in one narrow area. You will be enthusiastic, excited by technology, motivated by innovation, keen to work in a small team and make a difference. Quality is important to you, but you are also capable of hacking concept demonstrators and prototypes together when the situation calls for it.

This role is located in Createcs Cockermouth office. Travel to our Oxford office may be required from time to time. Overseas travel to support key accounts in US and Japan may also be required occasionally. Expected Salary is in the £30,000-40,000 per annum range.

Experience in the following essential

  • Electronics background, preferably with respect to design and implementation of control systems for sensors and actuators.
  • Mechanical sympathy especially with respect to guiding mechanical teams to design both electronically controllable and reliable hardware.
  • Working with customers and suppliers to test, maintain and alter existing instrumentation.
  • Design and implementation of suitable test procedures for prototype instrumentation based upon high-level specifications and requirements.
  • Basic analysis of test data with presentation of findings in written reports.
  • Working knowledge of software languages such as MATLAB, C++, C or C#.
  • Working collaboratively within a small but focused team.
  • Good communications skills with the ability to summarise complex topics to non-technical people.
  • Fluent in English.

Experience in the following desired

  • Nuclear Instrumentation development especially with respect to imaging or assay systems.
  • Design and development of new instrumentation.
  • Understanding and ensuring compliance with all relevant product standards, especially with respect to EMC\EC regulations.
  • Writing low-level software algorithms in C++, C, C# or MATLAB
  • Confident working within tight time-scales
