Receptionist

Cleator Moor Health Centre


REPORTS TO: Senior Receptionist


HOURLY RATE:  £8.34-£8.93/hr (pro-rata dependent upon experience)


Working on reception in General practice is a rewarding post helping people get the right treatment, however like most frontline jobs dealing with a wide range of customers and internal stakeholders, it can be often be pressurised and demanding.


To cope in this type of environment we are looking for candidates who can demonstrate previous experience of working under pressure whilst maintaining excellent customer service.


Candidates will also need to be able to demonstrate on their application form experience in using Microsoft packages including outlook, general admin duties, dealing with difficult situations and working with a range of internal and external customers from senior staff such as our GPs to patients.

*If surgery is running late you will have to stay until the GP is finished or the GP does not require you to stay.

As well as your core hours, you will also be required to cover holidays and sickness for your reception colleagues.   
 
You will work within an established reception team at Cleator Moor Health Centre.      


The Job Holder will cover a range of reception duties, most of which involve the use of the Emis clinical computer system; training will be given. 


DUTIES

New Patients:  Handing out New Patient Information pack to all patients who wish to register with the practice.  Check all completed paperwork to ensure all parts of the forms are complete.  Register the new patient on the clinical system, make a new patient appointment and confirm this to the patient.  Record the new patients ethic origin and first language on the clinical system using the new patient registration template. 


Appointments:  Make appointments for patients using the Emis system. 


Home Visits:  Log all requests for home visits (Emis system and manual call-book).  Ensure that patients name, address, contact details, nature of call, and time of call are all logged. 


Emergency Calls:  Log all requests for emergency visits and liaise with the on-call doctor re appropriateness of calls.  Ensure patients name, address, contact details, nature of emergency and time of call is logged. 


Tasks:  To deal with practice notes on a daily basis, ensuring that the action is either complete or forwarded on.  Any requests for the patient to be contacted and the reason why should be passed on to the patient in an accurate and timely manner. 


Message Taking:  To take all messages for other Primary Health Care Team Members and ensure that all messages for the District Nurse, Health Visitor and Midwife are logged in their respective message books including name, telephone number, time of call, nature of call and who took the call. 


Front Desk:  To man the front desk.  To ensure that patients attending surgery and logged in on the computer, that patients are sent to the GP, that routine general queries are either answer or directed appropriately, to hand out repeat prescriptions and to run the front desk in an effective, efficient and courteous manner. 


Transferring to Out-of-Hours Service:  To ensure that the telephone is transferred to the out-of-hours service at 6.30pm each evening and that the answerphone is switched on and the message checked.


Other Duties:  As well as the above, you will be expected to perform additional duties as designated by the Senior Receptionist 


TRAINING

All new entrants will undergo induction training which will include training on the Emis clinical system.     


ANNUAL LEAVE: 4 weeks (pro-rata) plus Bank Holidays (pro-rata)


NHS PENSION: Eligible for NHS pension scheme
